Scalp Micropigmentation for Pre/Post Hair Transplant
Skalp® offers a pioneering cosmetic treatment to enhance the visual result of your hair transplant. The procedure is suitable for both FUT and FUE transplants pre, and post-op.
During a Scalp Micropigmenation treatment for hair transplant recipients, we will replicate thousands of hair follicles on the scalp by depositing pigment into the skin with a needle. By camouflaging the scalp, so less of your scalp is visible it gives the appearance of having thicker hair.
We build up the density over 3 sessions, starting with a lighter colour on session one, then adjusting the colour and adding density on sessions 2 and 3 to ensure a seamless colour and density match to blend perfectly with your existing hair.
Most of our clients have Scalp Micropigmentation after a hair transplant as transplants very rarely achieve the coverage they expect from the transplant, but with Scalp Micropigmentation we are not limited to a number of grafts they can take from the back of the scalp. We have an effectively unlimited amount of follicles we can replicate to achieve the desired density.
Density Treatment
Here is an example of a Scalp Micropigmentation density treatment where we camouflaged the scalp giving a more full and even appearance.
For clients that have already had a hair transplant, Scalp Micropigmentation performed after the hair transplant surgery can offer an amazing method of camouflaging transplant scars and filling areas of the scalp where the hair still appears thin.
If having SMP before a transplant we would recommend having the treatment completed 4 weeks before your transplant to allow the SMP treatment to fully settle before surgery.
Hair Transplant Scars
Apart from not achieving the desired density from their hair transplant the biggest worry of our clients is the scars (sometimes very large scars) that are left on the back of their heads following a hair transplant. Often having to keep the hair longer at the back of their heads than they would really want to try and hide the scars.
Scalp Micropigmentation is the most effective way of camouflaging hair transplant scars, the same technique is used on scars as on the rest of the scalp. We build up the density and colour over 3 sessions to make the scars as invisible as possible. We can camouflage the scars so that you can wear your hair as short as you like at the back of your head without anyone noticing the scarring.
Here is an example of a FUT scar that we camouflaged with Scalp Micropigmentation.
Here is an example of a client that had 3 FUT hair transplants and we helped camouflage with Scalp Micropigmentation.
The after images were taken not long after the treatment session so still appears slightly red, the redness will disappear usually after just 24 hours.
Hair Transplants
A Hair transplant involves taking hair from one area, such as the back of the head and transplanting it to the area that is affected by hair loss. The two different methods used are follicular unit extraction (FUE) and follicular unit transplantation (FUT).
Follicular unit transplantation (FUT)
Strips of skin are taken from the donor area before dividing them into individual pieces. Cuts are then made in the scalp for the pieces to be placed into. This method can leave a large strip scar.
Follicular unit extraction (FUE)
A patient’s head is shaven and individual hair follicles are extracted from the donor area. These follicles are then placed into cuts in the transplant site. Scars with this method are less noticeable than FUT transplants and appear as individual dots.
If you do not have enough remaining hair to have our thickening effect treatment you should consider our shaved effect Scalp Micropigmentation. Click here for more information.
