Is there a benefit for using lemon juice for hair loss?
Lemons have never been top of my favourite taste list. That tart bitter flavour can leave an uncomfortable after-taste that usually leads my face doing all kinds of contortions. But the fact is, as well as being great for diets, this citrus fruit is also great for hair care. Best of all you don’t necessarily have to put it in your mouth!
It’s clearly more digestible in small amounts. We tend to take it to spice up our food or drinks (lemon tea has become very popular) or as a hot drink to ward off colds and flu. Lemon juice has great vitamins which are great for everyday health – far as your hair is concerned it is safe because it is a natural agent – none of those questionable additives here.
So how can lemon help your hair-care? Let’s take a look:
Preventing hair loss
Lemon juice can actually go along way in preventing hair loss and thinning hair. In this case you actually apply the lemon to the hair. The result is it thickens the hair and consequently helps to prevent hair from falling while encouraging new hair to grow. To thicken you hair, mix lemon juice from half a lemon, an egg yolk, a teaspoon of honey and a tablespoon of olive oil and apply this to wet hair. Let it stay on for half an hour before rinsing it off.
Itchy Scalp
If you suffer from an itchy scalp we know you are frustrated. Lemon juice can be a great remedy. Add a few drops of lemon juice to your regular hair shampoo or conditioner and massage into your hair for about ten minutes before rinsing off with cold water. Surveys have found that regular washing using this technique can really sooth this embarrassing problem.
Oily scalp
The oil which appears on your scalp is alkaline in nature. Lemon juice is intrinsically citric acid. The latter when applied to the scalp can negate excess of the former. Mix lemon juice and vinegar in equal amounts and apply on the scalp to remove clogged follicles that give rise to an oily scalp.
Hair growth
If you have suffered from hair loss in the past and you are beginning to see new hair growth, you will want to nurture those new shoots as much as possible. Again lemon juice has the dual action of encouraging growth while slowing down hair loss. Mix lemon juice with olive oil or coconut oil and use the mixture to massage your scalp. Due to the presence of vitamin c, Lemon juice can also strengthen individual hairs.
