Looking after your hair during hot summer months
Hot summer months? Who am I kidding you may well ask. If the weather is anything to go by here in the UK in the last few weeks, all we are likely to get is the same of the usual: wind, rain, and anything else which is marginally unpleasant. However, the forecasters tell us weather prospects are going to change big time through June and we are finally going to get our long-waited-for dose of summer sun. So this is a time to keep extra special care of your hair as it can be much harder to care for in hot humid weather.
Hot weather can affect your hair in the following ways:
- High humidity can cause your hair to weigh down and swell in diameter
- It can cause hair to frizz
- It can cause hair products to give out early.
Keep to a simple natural style
To help combat high humidity it is a good idea to try and go with the style which comes naturally to your type of hair. For instance, curly hair will often become curlier or frizzy in higher humidity and fine hair is more likely to be weighed down by high humidity and become limp and lifeless. Don’t go against the natural style of your hair.
Keep it short – keep cool
A shorter hairstyle is always a good idea because it does not need so much holding in place and it is less likely to get chaotic. Obviously a shorter hairstyle is going to feel a whole lot cooler too, so as much as big bushy hairstyles are in for guys (as well as the shaven headed look!) you may have to put comfort before fashion here.
Why not tackle hair loss at the same time!
Or why not give the “shaven head look” a test run during the summer months. As well as being fashionable, you will be cool, in control of your hair and caring for it in the best possible way. If hair loss or thinning hair is an issue for you, check out our information on scalp micro pigmentation.
Top caring products
If you are not about to cut your hair, consider having styles which will incur the least use of styling products. The fact is they just won’t work so well in the heat. When caring for your hair choose a shampoo which specifically targets humidity (anti-frizz or smoothing etc.). A good conditioner will also prevent your hair from absorbing too much water.
Scalp Micro Pigmentation is an amazing service for people struggling with hair loss or who just want to join the bald fashion trend and look their very best. Trained practitioners apply pigments to the scalp so it appears as if you have a full head of hair – but cut fashionably short.
Skalp® have clinics around the world. We have clinics in New York, Los Angeles, London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Dublin, Marbella, Milan and Amsterdam.
