Beards-  A trend that keeps on growing

Here on the Skalp Micro Pigmentation blog we naturally focus our attention on the good old bald pate, the bald head, the shaven head, the hairless head, hair loss and thinning hair. Well, today we are going to talk about bushy hair. But not hair on the top of your head. We are going to turn everything upside down here and discuss what’s on your chin and the ever-growing popularity of the beard.

Surely not compensation?

It is interesting that just as the shaven head has become such a fashionable trend for guys, for some time now the beard has also become highly trendy. So what is this about – are guys trying to make up for the lack of the hair on their head by putting it on their chin instead? No in many ways this ust tends to look silly and fools only lowest of IQ’s.

The fact is, it isn’t just bald guys who are trying out new and fashionable styles of beard. In fact, quite the contrary.

Recent history of the beard

In the nineties and early naughties there was really only two beard styles that that would pass as being fashionable – that is the goatee and the designer stubble. The moustache had become a definite no-no and has only seen a rise in interest since the activities of Movember.

Then a couple of years ago the beard came back with a crash. And this wasn’t some whispy – “I’ve forgotten to shave – don’t I look cool beard” – the beard was back – big and bushy!

The new in-style beard soon got its own name – the hipster beard. The kind of beard that tends to look a tiny bit unkempt, trimmed back a little, but on the whole appears as if it’s just been left to its own devices as far as growing is concerned. This style seemed especially attractive to guys in their twenties and thirties (unfortunately most guys below this age probably couldn’t grow their own beard).

Gone for good?

Then last year the interest in this new hairy style began to taper off a bit, but we think it has come back with a vengeance. Or it least it is still with us. It has probably passed its popularity peak – now it’s just here to stay. And it’s not just about fashion. We think guys have felt a new liberation with this non-shaving stuff. Freedom of expression and freedom from so much time spent lathering up and pulling silly faces in the mirror.

Oh, and by the way have you heard of DecemBeard? This follows closely in the footsteps of Movember and is meant to raise money for charities supporting people with bowel cancer. We’re all going to be looking like father Christmas next year!
