Never enough hair
Hair transplants are sold as an attractive solution to fix hair loss. Celebrities on TV promote some companies and promise amazing changes to your appearance. We can say with absolute confidence that these claims hold very little truth as upon closer inspection the hair would feel different. It’s likely they are using a concealer like dermMatch or nanogen fibers to make their hair look thicker.

Using either Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) or Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) they take an average of 2,500 hairs from the scalp. These are then distributed during the transplantation process. The problem is that rarely do these hairs successfully transplant and even in the best case scenario this amount of hair used is insufficient. The idea is to make these 2,500 hairs look like 20,000 and the difference in density is always noticeable.
This rule applies right across the board. We know that everyone is experiencing varying levels of hair loss but even if they had 4,000 grafts it would still need to look like 40,000 hairs. The numbers used in hair transplants do not add up. It’s no wonder that so many people feel so underwhelmed by the procedure. A good example is to imagine a football stadium with a capacity of 50,000. If you see 5,000 people seated for a match, you’ll soon notice how empty it looks.
Finding the right solution
Aside from the numbers problem, there is also a growth issue. Transplanted hair grows in a different direction to natural hair. Another problem with hair transplants is that the new hair will grow out in different unnatural directions. Plus, it tends to feel more wiry than real hair. Recovering the look of lost hair is one thing but how it feels to the touch is important too.
