Returning to Work After SMP- What you should know
Making changes to your appearance will usually draw attention of some kind. Some people are more comfortable with it than others but most people want to get back to a normal routine as fast as possible. Scalp micropigmentation is no different in that regard. Returning back to work after the procedure may cause people to notice a change in your look. However, the likelihood is the problem will be bigger in your mind than it is in reality.
If you are heading back to work in-between sessions you may be anxious about people noticing a change, or having to explain yourself. Read on below to for a few tips on how to deal with returning to work after SMP.
After the treatment
Firstly, most of our clients return to work the next day after each session. It’s understandable to feel a little dread or anxiety about it. However, the feedback we get from our clients’ experience of returning to work is always a positive one. With only compliments from friends and colleagues.
For up to two days after each treatment session, your head is likely to visibly different. The skin on the scalp may look slightly more red than usual. This is due to the tiny wounds caused to the skin, although this is a normal part of the process. The dots created during the session may also look darker or more defined as they are healing. If you have very light or sensitive skin, one option is to plan your treatment around your work schedule.
We advise customers to have at least a 7-day gap between treatment sessions. If you book sessions for a Friday or Saturday this should allow enough time for your head to return to normal. This plan will make returning to work on Monday much less stressful and lower your concerns. We are very flexible when it comes to booking your treatment appointments, and our aim is to make the treatment as smooth as possible for you.
Reduce the redness
While the treatment is healing, there is not much you can do to reduce the redness. Make sure you follow our aftercare instructions here so as not to disturb the healing process. We advise you let the treatment heal naturally and not use any creams, lotions or touch your head for as long as possible (around 4 days). Even if you’ve scheduled your sessions with work in mind, you may still have plans for the weekend. If this is the case you might be worried about the redness on your scalp. Again, we suggest planning the treatment ahead so that you don’t have a big event or important plans during those first few days, to alleviate any stress.
Wear a hat
If you are able to wear a hat in your workplace this could be a solution for a few days. Although, we advise customers not to wear a hat straight after the session. Letting the skin breathe will help the recovery process. There may also be some inflammation and tenderness after the treatment. Wearing a hat might increase this if worn too soon.
Keep it simple
If you want to lower attention – don’t draw attention to yourself! Much of this will depend on the style of micropigmentation you choose. Opting for a style that fits in your with natural look or hair is usually the best option. Of course, if you’re comfortable with the attention then feel free to go as wild as you want to!
Tell the truth
You may not care one bit what anyone thinks about your new hairline. If this sounds like you, then you’ll have no need to worry about any of the above. As we mentioned at the start most people are less interested than we tend to think. If they do notice and ask about your new look, you’ll be surprised by their response. People who do not have hair loss conditions may not be aware of what SMP is. This is a good way to educate people and also get some compliments about how great you look too!
